Policeman dies in Third Mainland Bridge crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal accident on Third Mainland Bridge, inward Iyana Oworo, which claimed a police officer’s life.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos.
The crash occurred when a Lexus vehicle (EPE 765 JN) rammed into a police officer riding a Bajaj motorcycle on the bridge.
He said, “The officer died on the spot.”
The driver of the Lexus reportedly turned himself in at Adekunle Police Division shortly after the crash.
Following distress calls, LASTMA officials, in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, arrived to manage traffic and begin emergency response.
“Traffic cones and safety devices were strategically placed to prevent further accidents, while police operatives documented the incident,” he said.
Coordinated evacuation operations removed affected vehicles and restored normal traffic flow along Third Mainland Bridge.
Mr Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and avoid reckless driving on Lagos roads.
He stressed responsible driving habits and compliance with traffic regulations to reduce avoidable fatalities across Lagos State.
