“I appealed to all Nigerians to rally behind the present democratic administration at every level,” the lawmaker added.

Rufai Hanga ( NNPP-Kano Central) on Sunday condemned the alleged change of government in the Benin Republic and called on the military not to interfere with the country’s democratic institutions.
Mr Hanga spoke to journalists in Kano on Sunday.
According to multiple reports, a group of soldiers appeared on state television on  Sunday, claiming to have dissolved the government, but the interior minister later said the armed forces had thwarted the attempt.
Mr Hanga condemned any unconstitutional seizure of power, urged the military to respect the rule of law, and called on it to support the elected civilian government.
He urged Nigerians to uphold democracy and called on politicians to protect the nation’s hard‑won democratic order.
“I appealed to all Nigerians to rally behind the present democratic administration at every level,” the lawmaker added.
Mr Hanga said it was incumbent at this moment to respect the will of the people who have embraced democracy and warned that any attempt to undermine or tamper with the democratic order will not be tolerated.
He added that the current democratic dispensation was a hard‑won achievement and that all Nigerians, irrespective of political party, should unite and support the present government for the overall good of the nation.
The senator further stressed that it was high time for politicians to do more in safeguarding the nation’s hard‑earned democracy.
“Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria,” he said, and urged all to protect it.
The senator’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns over political stability and the need for continued vigilance to preserve democratic institutions across the country.
