A high tension cable belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Company (PHEDC) has fallen on a building, killing a nursing mother in the Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

While the police spokesperson in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette on Sunday morning, the cause of the incident remains unknown.

The Gazette learnt the deceased, identified as Latifa Seiyi, was in her house on Saturday, at Agip Estate in Port Harcourt, when the high tension cable fell on its rooftop, setting the building on fire before charring the victim beyond recognition.

Efforts by The Gazette to reach officials of the PHEDC via their communication channel were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Local media reports that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary.
