POWA distributes 137 goats to widows, others in Kano

The Police Officers Wives Association, Kano State chapter on Sunday distributed 137 goats to widows and vulnerable members of society to enhance their livelihoods and economic independence.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Sunday.
The Chairperson, Aisha Gumel who is also the wife of the state Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Gumel, said the gesture was a routine exercise of supporting families of late and retired operatives and other less-privileged persons in society.
Mrs Aisha had in a separate occasion presented skills acquisition certificates to over 100 POWA members trained and sponsored to start-up various businesses by the association.
She said, “POWA will keep engaging in educational support programmes, skills acquisition training, and distribution of clothing and food items among other supports to its members. Since assuming leadership of the association, we initiated a series of entrepreneurial skills and training for members.
“We also entered into partnership with state and non-state actors who opened up grants for our members and many other initiatives,” she said.
The POWA chairperson expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for supporting the association and including them in its empowerment programmes.
She also commended the CP and senior police officers in the state for encouraging and supporting the association.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Rakiya Abdullahi, Aishatu Musa and Rabi Shehu expressed appreciation for the support, saying it would enhance their livelihoods.
