Spanish authorities on Tuesday released preliminary findings on the possible cause of the accident involving Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota and his younger brother, Silva Andre.

An update on the accident issued by Zamora branch Spain’s Guardia Civil, one of the country’s two national police forces, suggested that speeding was a potential cause of the crash.

“The expert report is being carried out and finished, where among other things, the tread marks left by one of the wheels of the vehicle are being studied. Everything also points to a possible high excess of speed over the permitted speed of the road. All the tests carried out for the moment point to the fact that the driver of the crashed vehicle was Diogo Jota,” the initial findings released on Tuesday reads.

The report added that the full report would be presented to the court in Puebla de Sanabria, a town close to the site of the accident.

The duo of Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, died on Thursday last week after the Lamborghini they drove in crashed on the A-52 dual-carriageway near the city of Zamora, close to the Portuguese border.

Tributes have continued to pour in for the dui since last week.
