President Tinubu swears in new SGF George Akume

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at the council chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr Akume, a former Benue governor, was appointed on Friday to handle the administrative organisation of the new government. He took over from Boss Mustapha after taking an oath of allegiance and oath of office.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, president of the Senate Ahmad Lawan, and some serving and former governors witnessed the swearing-in.
The governors included AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Hyacinth Alia of Benue and ex-Governor Tanko Al-Makura.
The head of the civil service of the federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan and the spouse of the new SGF, Regina Akume, were also present.
Mr Akume was the former minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023.
The new SGF represented Benue North-West senatorial district from 2007 to 2019.
He was also the minority leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.
