The Proprietor of Nacabs Polytechnic Akwanga, Nasarawa State, David Abuluya, has advised youth corps members to embrace different skills to be self-reliant.

According to him, skills will also make them employers of labour and contribute positively to the development of society.

He gave the advice while playing host to serving members of Culture and Tourism CDS group, NYSC, in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

Mr Abuluya, who is the President, Eggon Cultural and Development Association Worldwide, underscored the importance of skills acquisition to human and societal development.

He said, “I call on you to learn and acquire skills to help yourselves, your families and contribute positively to the development of society. As white collar jobs are now very scarce, your parents have invested so much in your education, you should learn skills to be self-reliant and employers of labour.

Mr Abuluya, who is also the Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee, Nasarawa State chapter, appreciated the corps members for the visit and further urged them to be good ambassadors of the country at all times.

He said, “You said you are here to know more about Eggon people and their culture which is Eggon history. By God’s grace, we will take some of you to Eggon hill to see things for yourselves. Eggon people are well known for their hard work, industry, integrity and friendly.’’

The rector said that NYSC promotes national integration and culture.

He stated, “The essence of the NYSC is also for the corps members to embrace the culture of their host communities. I think some of you are from Akwa Ibom, Borno, Plateau, Benue, Kogi and other parts of the country.’’

He urged the corps members and other Nigerians to continue to embrace unity, peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of their affiliations, for the overall development of the country.

Earlier, the President of the Culture and Tourism CDS Group, NYSC Batch A2, Abasido Inyang, said that the visit was to learn about Eggon culture.

Mr Inyang said, “We, the corps members under the CDS, Culture and Tourism are here to learn more about the Eggon culture. We are also here to know everything about the Eggon life. As corpers, we need costumes as we also want to go to cultural festivals so we can know more about the people.

“‘We have heard about the Eggon hills and we would love to visit the hill and other sites. You know we cannot do all these on our own; that is why we have come to seek for your assistance sir.’’

Mar Inyang assured the ECDA president of their readiness to embrace peace and unity as well do the right things at all times.
