Protesters disrupt Atiku, Obi coalition meeting

The coalition meeting attended by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other politicians was disrupted as Jigawa delegates protested inside the hall on Sunday.
The meeting, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel on Sunday, was organised by the National Political Consultative Group.
According to Punch Newspaper, a protest broke out as former secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal, appointed a delegate to speak for Jigawa State.
Angered by Mr Babachir’s action, Jigawa delegates vehemently protested, barring the person chosen to speak on their behalf from speaking.
It took the intervention of security operatives at the meeting to calm the protesters, after which Mustapha Lamido, son of the former Jigawa governor, spoke for the Jigawa delegates.
Sunday’s meeting comes as part of moves for opposition groups to coalesce to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The meeting was attended by Mr Abubakar, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party; Mr Obi of the Labour Party; former Rivers governor and minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and other opposition politicians.
