PSN urges Anambra government to establish drug management agency

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Anambra chapter, has urged the state government to establish a drug management agency to curb the sale of substandard and counterfeit drugs.
Emeka Okpala, PSN chairman in Anambra, made the call on Monday in Awka during the 2025 World Pharmacists Day, with the theme ‘Think Health, Think Pharmacist’.
Mr Okpala said the agency would help reform the drug distribution system and position Anambra as a model for other states across the country.
He commended the state government for constructing the Coordinated Wholesale Distribution Centre in Oba, Idemili South LGA.
According to him, the centre, once completed, would serve as a game-changer in the fight against unsafe drug circulation.
“There is a need for holistic implementation of the National Drug Distribution Guideline in Anambra. Together, we can create a state where safe and affordable medicines are available to all, and pharmacists fully safeguard public health,” Mr Okpala said.
He restated that in health matters, whether prevention, treatment, or recovery, a pharmacist must remain at the forefront.
