Ramadan: Idris distributes grains, farm inputs, others to one million Kebbi residents

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has said more than one million residents will benefit from free distribution of assorted grains and agricultural inputs across the state.
Mr Idris made the announcement on Friday while hosting special advisers and chairmen of boards and P
parastatals to a Ramadan Iftar at the Government House, in Birnin Kebbi.
Ramadan Iftar is a tradition of honouring distinguished personalities to break the fast with the governor in Government House.
Mr Idris said the distribution would commence immediately, adding that a wide range of essential food items and farm inputs would be provided free-of-charge to beneficiaries statewide.
According to him, items earmarked for distribution include rice, maize, millet, fertilisers, herbicides, power tillers, solar pumps, compressed natural gas (CNG) water pumps and other critical inputs to support both dry and wet season farming.
The governor said the initiative formed part of his administration’s efforts to support citizens during Ramadan and boost food production in the state.
He said the programme underscored his administration’s people-centred approach to governance, noting that leadership must directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens, especially during periods of economic hardship.
Mr Idris said each beneficiary would receive at least one item, explaining that the intervention was designed not only to cushion the effects of hardship during Ramadan but also to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in the state.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises through policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the majority of the people.
The governor commended political appointees and other stakeholders for their support and loyalty which he said contributed to the smooth running of government.
He also addressed welfare concerns raised by the chairman of the Kebbi Advisers’ Forum Zayyanu Sanka, regarding outstanding furniture allowances for some advisers.
Mr Idris directed the Secretary to the State Government to ensure prompt payment of furniture allowances to affected advisers and chairmen of boards and parastatals in line with government approval.
He further assured that his administration would continue consultations to promote inclusive development and ensure that no community was left behind.
Earlier, Mr Sanka thanked the governor for what he described as his generosity and inclusive leadership style.
Mr Sanka said the appointment of a large number of advisers reflected the governor’s confidence in their capacity to serve.
He also appreciated the governor’s support to ill members of the forum and appealed for the payment of outstanding furniture allowances for about 30 advisers.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Forum of Heads of Boards and Parastatals, Prof. Suleiman Jega, commended the governor for the achievements recorded within a short period, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture and social interventions.
Mr Jega said the administration had not only fulfilled campaign promises but, in many instances, exceeded public expectations.
He added that political appointees would compile and document projects executed under the administration for public presentation, describing them as evidence of purposeful leadership.
He assured the governor of their continued support and commitment to consolidating on the gains recorded for the overall development of Kebbi State.
