Ramadan: North-East commission distributes food items to 1,900 vulnerable Yobe households

The North East Development Commission on Wednesday distributed food items to 1,900 beneficiaries across the nine local government areas of Yobe State.
The NEDC State Coordinator, Ali Abbas, made this known while handing over the items to state government officials in Damaturu.
He said the distribution targeted communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency and other disasters, as well as Persons With Disabilities across the state.
Mr Abbas added that the donation was carried out under the directive of the NEDC Managing Director, Muhammed Alkali, as part of the commission’s efforts to support the Yobe State Government to alleviate the sufferings of vulnerable populations.
He said, “We are here today on the instructions of the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Muhammed Alkali, to symbolically hand over food items to 1,900 direct beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are those who have been in one way or the other affected by Boko Haram insurgency because we are approaching Ramadan. This is because the commission feels that the Yobe State Government needs to be supported in its efforts toward alleviating peoples’ suffering.”
Commissioner, Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr Mairo Amshi, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the timely intervention.
She commended the NEDC state coordinator for the hard work and for fostering a strong working relationship with the state government through the ministry.
Ms Amshi said, “We thank the commission and state coordinator for the hardwork and listening ears and facilitating cordial relationship with the state through the ministry of humanitarian affairs.’’
The commissioner further handed over the list of beneficiaries to the Chairman of the Yobe Commission of Persons with Disability, Bura Gabai, for onward distribution.
In his remarks, Gabai thanked the NEDC for the support and acknowledged the Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, for establishing the Commission of Persons with Disabilities.
