Re-election: APC endorses Bago as consensus candidate for Niger governorship poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has screened Niger State Governor Umar Bago for a second term as its consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement on Saturday, Mr Bago announced his successful screening by the committee led by the national party chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda in Abuja.
He said, “Ahead of the APC primary elections and the 2027 general elections, I am pleased to announce that I have been successfully screened by the committee led by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and affirmed as the sole aspirant and consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the governorship election in Niger State.”
The governor expressed gratitude to the party leadership, stakeholders, supporters and residents of Niger State for their support and prayers.
He said, “This moment represents a renewed call to service and a solemn responsibility to work tirelessly for the progress, unity, and prosperity of our dear state.
“I remain fully committed to providing purposeful leadership, advancing inclusive growth, empowering our people, and building a stronger and more sustainable Niger State that guarantees opportunities, peace, and development for all.”
Mr Bago, who is seeking re-election, won the governorship poll in the 2023 on the APC platform after defeating Isah Liman Kantigi of the Peoples Democratic Party.
