Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, launched a local fabric to be used for celebration of national holidays in the country.

The first lady announced the unveiling of the ‘Aso Ebi,’ named #OneNigeriaUnityFabric, in a post on her X handle on Tuesday.

Mrs Tinubu said the “fabric represents our nation’s unity and was inspired by my visit to Zimbabwe in 2023, where I saw a similar initiative.”

The elated first lady expressed happiness that her introduction of the idea to the Renewed Hope Initiative had become a reality through the creativity of young Nigerians.

She stated that the design of the ‘Aso Ebi’ by one Bamidele Mofiyinfoluwa, “embodies our diverse culture and will be proudly worn on Independence Day and other national celebrations.”

She added that the project is also aimed at supporting “local textile industries, creating jobs, and celebrating Nigeria’s strength as one united nation.”

The first lady congratulated participants in the initiative and appreciated their talents, which according to her, is the country’s future.

The next national holiday in the country is October 1 to mark Independence Day.
