Remi Tinubu urges preservation of African cultural heritage
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has advocated preserving Africa’s rich cultural heritage and stronger unity among Africans.
Ms Tinubu made the call in a message commemorating the 2026 International Day for People of African Descent on Monday in Abuja.
The 2026 International Day for People of African Descent is being observed under the theme: “People of African Descent: Recognition, Justice, and Development.”
The first lady celebrated the resilience, strength, and courage of African women and girls globally, while commending the contributions of people of African descent to humanity.
“This day also serves as a reminder of the need to renew our collective commitment to protecting human rights,” she said.
Ms Tinubu urged Africans to preserve their rich cultural heritage and strengthen unity across the continent and the diaspora.
She also called for increased investment in education, empowerment and the well-being of Africans.
She wished Africans a happy International Day for People of African Descent 2026.
The International Day for People of African Descent is observed on August 31 to celebrate African heritage, culture, achievements, and contributions worldwide.
The day promotes equality, human rights, and justice, raises awareness of discrimination, and encourages greater respect and opportunities for people of African descent.
