Reps ready to provide online protection for Nigerian children

The Chairman of the House Committee on Justice, Olumide Osoba, has expressed the determination of the House of Representatives to provide online protection for Nigerian children.
Mr Osoba, who is the sponsor of the “Child Online Access Protection Bill,’’ said this at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.
He said that the bill has been passed and assented to by many countries of the world such as Brazil and aimed at protection children from online exploitation and harm.
According to him, the bill seeks to establish an e-commission to track and monitor as well as block harmful contents thereby protecting the children online.
Mr Osoba explained that the bill is equally aimed at mandating the removal of illegal content, establishing platform accountability and promoting digital literacy.
He affirmed the determination of the House through the bill to impose penalties for non-compliance.
The “Child Online Access Protection Bill” is a proposed Nigerian law, designed to protect children from online harm by creating a legal framework for online safety.
The bill has passed its second reading in the National Assembly.
