The House of Representatives has called for a thorough investigation into the reported cases of incessant killings and destruction of properties in some communities in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The call followed the adoption of a motion of Urgent Public Importance, presented by Rep. Hassan Shinkafi (APC-Zamfara) during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr Shinkafi said the attacks came when citizens were experiencing hardship due to economic challenges. The lawmaker said the attacks had caused severe pains to residents of the affected communities.

He said many shops, houses, motorcycles, and foodstuffs, among others, were lost to the attacks.

The lawmaker said two police officers attached to Zurmi Police Divisional Headquarters were killed in one of the attacks.

Adopting the motion, the House urged the Inspector General of Police to set up a tactical team to unravel the mystery behind the attacks and report to the lower chamber in two weeks.

The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently support victims in the affected areas with relief materials

The House urged the federal government to deploy more military personnel to the affected areas to stop further attacks.

The House urged the Committee on Defence, Police Affairs, Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance with the directive.
