The speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has sworn in two members of the House who won their February 3 rerun election in their constituencies.

The lawmakers are Mohammed Omadefu (APC-Keana) and Musa Abubakar (NNPP-Doma South).

The speaker performed the swearing-in during the House proceedings in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, on Monday.

Congratulating the two lawmakers for retaining their seats, Mr Jatau urged them to continue to live above board while discharging their duties.

“We are happy that you have retained your seats to represent your constituencies in this House,” he said.

Mr Jatau urged them to abide by their oath of office.

The speaker also called on the people of their constituencies to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship by supporting Mr Omadefu and Mr Musa to succeed.

The speaker equally called for sustained unity among members for the overall peace and development of the House and the state.

“Let’s continue to work together and live as one family for the overall development of this House and the state at large,” he said.

Responding, Messrs Abubakar and Omadefu appreciated God and their people for returning them to the House.

They also appreciated the speaker’s purposeful leadership and other members’ support, and they assured the speaker of their support to succeed.

On November 28, 2023, The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court declared the election of the Keana constituency inconclusive.

This nullified the election of Mr Omadefu, the majority leader of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, as the Appeal Court on November 29, 2023, also ordered a rerun election in one polling unit of Doma South Constituency, declaring the election of Mr Abubakar inconclusive.’’
