Residents flee as bandits launch fresh attack on Kwara community

Barely 24 hours after armed bandits attacked communities in Patigi and Edu Local Government Areas of Kwara State, suspected terrorists have launched a fresh attack on Share in the Ifelodun LGA Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
Peoples Gazette gathered that the armed gunmen attacked the community around 8:00 pm and started shooting indiscriminately.
Residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Gazette, said the community was thrown into disarray as the assailants continued to shoot for a prolonged period of time.
“Kidnappers have entered Share; we are done,” a resident said. “They targeted a resident called Zulu Alfa Dako. They were coming from Local.”
Another resident, who said the attackers came for some targets, wept over the development, adding people were running for safety.
The resident said, “All of us are running for safety. The gunmen have entered the town and caused havoc by shooting endlessly. While we learnt that the assailants targeted some individuals, I don’t know if anyone has been abducted.”
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi could not be immediately reached for comment on the latest development.
Meanwhile, special assistant to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on communication, Ibrahim Abdullateef, said the assailants were repelled by security agencies.
“Local security sources have reported that bandits that were reportedly attacking Share community, Ifelodun LGA, have been successfully repelled by combined security forces,” Mr Abdullateef stated in an update shared on Facebook on Sunday.
He further said that the exchange of gunshots lasted for about one hour, enoting that no report of abduction or death had been recorded yet.
“Further information is being awaited. May God bless and protect our gallant security forces always,” Mr Abdullateef added.
The latest attack came barely 24 hours after armed bandits attacked communities in Edu and Patigi local government areas of the state, kidnapping four people and leaving several others injured.
