Alhassan Doguwa, chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), has reiterated his call on Nigerians to shun the planned protest over the present challenges facing the nation.

“Tell our youths that protest is not the way to go. They should pray for their leaders. No responsible person should come out to protest something that was built on deceit,” said Mr Doguwa.

The legislator added, “I agree there is hardship. We represent the people, and we are doing our best to help bring solutions to them. And because this hardship started almost 16 years ago, the truth is that it cannot be solved in just one year. It cannot be done. People should not allow themselves to be brainwashed to participate.”

Mr Doguwa said this in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday. According to him, President Bola Tinubu was working hard to address the nation’s challenges.

“My colleagues and I in the National Assembly are reaching out to our constituents to appeal to them to shun the planned protest slated for August 1,” Mr Doguwa explained. “We are also reaching out to the local clerics and religious leaders to advocate for peace in the country.

He added, “We must give the government a chance to succeed for the good of the nation. We are reaching out to our people to muster continued support for the president. We are proud that the president has signed into law the Northwest Development Commission Act.”
