Rivers APC will obey Wike’s directives on 2027 poll: Official

Mr Otobo said, “We await instructions from you on the 2027 elections concerning Rivers State.”

• January 4, 2026

Leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, has declared loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding the 2027 general elections.

The chairman of the party, Rejoice Otobo, stated this during Mr Wike’s “thank you” visit to the local government area on Sunday.

“We await instructions from you on the 2027 elections concerning Rivers State,” Mr Otobo said. “Wherever you ask us to go, there we shall go; whatever you ask us to do is what we will do.”

The APC chairman further assured Mr Wike that the people in the LGA would not fail him because of what he had done for them.

“All the good and the bad people of the LGA have decided that where you want us to go is where we will go,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr Wike explained that he was in the area to thank the people for the overwhelming support given to him and President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

Noting that Rivers State used to be respected for its strong political stand on good governance across the country until bad governance happened, the minister insisted that the state deserves a leader capable of restoring its glory.

“Already, Rivers State is being respected because of what we are doing in FCT. We need a leader we can trust to drive our dear state to glory and progress,” Mr Wike said.

Meanwhile, the APC national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, clarified that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remained the leader of the ruling party in the state amid the feud between Messrs Wike and Fubara.

“In all the states, we have the state governors that lead the party in their respective states,” Mr Yilwatda said in a Channels TV interview on Friday, adding the governor was, however, encouraged to embrace inclusion in the state.
