The Rivers government has pledged stronger collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to improve road safety and security across the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dagogo Wakoma, gave the assurance on Friday in Port Harcourt.

Mr Wakoma spoke at a valedictory session organised to honour Assistant Corps Marshal Henry Benamaisia, the outgoing Zonal Commanding Officer, RS6HQ, Port Harcourt.

Represented by the permanent secretary, SSG’s Office, Dede Samson, Mr Wakoma commended Mr Benamaisia for his commitment and dedication to national service.

He said the state recorded improved traffic management, road safety sensitisation, and stronger collaboration with the FRSC under Benamaisia’s leadership.

“Benamaisia’s judicious service, professionalism and unwavering dedication to the corps’ mandate enhanced safety on our roads,” he said.

Mr Wakoma particularly appreciated the retiring officer’s support during peak periods, including the Ember months, festive periods and other special celebrations.

“We appreciate your support, especially during peak periods, including Ember months, festive periods and other special celebrations,” he said.

He prayed for God’s guidance, good health, peace, and fruitful years for Benamaisia as he retired from active service.

Also speaking, the commissioner, Rivers Public Complaints Commission, Chima Boms, congratulated Mr Benamaisia and commended Special Marshals for their selfless contributions to road safety.

Mr Boms urged the state government to strengthen its partnership with the FRSC to enhance the safety and security of the people.

“FRSC officers are always on the roads and are privy to intelligence that could assist government in making decisions concerning road construction,” he said.

He said their field experience could help policymakers select appropriate road designs and determine suitable construction materials.

According to him, FRSC officers also understand the categories of vehicles using the roads and could provide valuable information to policymakers.

Delivering his valedictory lecture, Mr Benamaisia urged officers to embrace innovation and digitalisation to strengthen Nigeria’s road safety culture.

His lecture was titled, ‘Three Decades of Active Service: Advancing a Sustainable Road Safety Culture in Nigeria Through Leadership, Innovation and Shared Responsibility.’

He urged officers to uphold professionalism and accountability while commending them for their cooperation throughout his years of service.

Mr Benamaisia also called for stronger inter-agency collaboration to improve road safety and security across Nigeria.

Earlier, the Rivers Sector Commander, Francis Ajatta, thanked Mr Benamaisia for his cooperation and mentorship of officers in the command.

Mr Ajatta wished the retired officer a fruitful new phase as he commenced another chapter of service to humanity.

Sister agencies, public and private individuals, friends and relations attended the valedictory session.
