The Federal Road Safety Corps says at least 50 people have been killed in road crashes across the state in three months.

Apaji Boyi, the Bauchi sector commander, disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday.

Mr Boyi said the crashes that occurred in October, November, and December 2025 left 468 people injured.

He also said there were 76 reported auto crashes during the period under review.

”In October 2025, we had 10 reported cases of road traffic crashes involving 77 people, with 58 persons seriously injured, while eight of the victims lost their lives.

“In November, we had 25 reported cases of auto crashes with 201 people involved. Out of the figure, 14 people died, while 144 others were injured.

”Then in December, 28 people lost their lives in 41 reported cases of road traffic crashes involving 433 persons, with 266 persons reported seriously injured,” he said.

The sector commander explained that some of the major causes of the crashes were speeding, wrongful overtaking, driver fatigue, overloading of persons, conveyance of persons in haulage vehicles, and traveling with fuel in plastic containers.

While emphasising that drivers’ behaviour was a fundamental element in determining safety on highways, he added that some road traffic infringements by drivers also responsible for road crashes included speed limit violations.

He said these infringements include failure to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations, speed limit violations, drug use, seat belt violations, and use of phones while driving, among others.

He acknowledged that the federal government’s support had been responsible for the FRSC’s modest achievements over the years and appreciated the government for its advisory oversight.

Mr Boyi urged motorists to be cautious and to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, avoid overloading, speeding, wrongful overtaking, and using cell phones while driving.

He also urged drivers to ensure their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys.

The FRSC commander further reassured that the corps would not relent in its responsibility of sensitising motorists in Bauchi about traffic rules, signs, and regulations.
