Ronaldo cannot leave struggling Manchester United: Erik ten Hag
Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag says Cristiano Ronaldo is in the club’s plan for the coming season and cannot leave this summer.
Explaining why Ronaldo was not part of United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, the coach said: “He’s not with us and it’s due to personal issues.”
Asked if Ronaldo will leave the club this summer, Erik ten Hag said “He hasn’t told me (he wants to leave). I have read but what I say is Cristiano is not for sale. Cristiano is in our plans and we want to get success together.
“We are planning with Cristiano Ronaldo this season. So, that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him,” he added.
The Times a few days ago reported that the Portuguese star wants to leave United due to his desire to play in the Champions League.
Manchester United ended sixth on the English Premier League log, failing to qualify for the Champions League, after winning 16 games, scoring 57 goals, and garnering just 58 points in the season.
Ronaldo, 37, who made a return to Manchester United last summer, has consecutively played in 19 editions of the Champions League since he first joined Manchester United from Lisbon in 2003.
