Russian police detain suspect for assaulting Al Jazeera reporter during live broadcast

Police in Russia’s Republic of Karelia have detained a suspect for allegedly assaulting Al Jazeera reporter Rania Dridi during a live broadcast in St.Petersburg, the Russian Interior Ministry said on Monday.
“Police officers detained in Petrozavodsk a suspect in the attack on Al Jazeera reporter Rania Dridi,” Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk said.
A criminal case on charges of battery has been initiated, the official added later in the day.
Last week, St. Petersburg media reported that Ms Dridi was hospitalised with a concussion and a closed head injury after what the Palestinian journalist said was an unprovoked attack.
She said an unknown man had hit her in the head and ran away.
Local police launched a search.
