Sales rep arraigned for theft of N6.7 million

A 44-year-old man, Clement Bamidele, was on Friday arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over the alleged theft of N6.7 million from his employer.
Mr Bamidele, a sales representative whose address was not given, is being charged with stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Akeem Akinloye, alleged that Mr Bamidele, a sales representative for Carrot Top Drugs Company, stole proceeds from sales of drugs amounting to N6.7 million.
Mr Akinloye also said the defendant fraudulently converted the money for his personal use rather than remitting it to the employer’s account.
He said the defendant committed the offence between July 2024 and February 2025 at the firm’s premises in Ibadan.
The prosecutor further said the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defence counsel, Adesayo Adaralegbe, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail in the most liberal terms.
The chief magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail of N2.5 million, with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must own a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction and that the second surety should be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the matter until March 3, 2026, for hearing.
