The police command in Plateau has deployed 2,161 personnel for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state.

Ubah Ogaba, the command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Jos.

According to Mr Ogaba, the measure was to ensure a peaceful, crime-free, and memorable Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

“The command in its quest to have a hitch-free Sallah celebration has developed strategies.

“In view of the above, the command has deployed 2,161 personnel to detect and prevent crime, as well ensure free flow of traffic in the state.

“This is to also ensure adequate security and safety of citizens of the state during the celebration,” he said.

The police spokesman advised the Muslim faithful to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols such as social distancing, using hand sanitisers, and wearing face masks at the designated Eid grounds.

He added that the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 would move round to ensure compliance.

Mr Ogaba disclosed that the command had banned the operation of tricycles between Wednesday and Thursday, adding that all recreational centres would also remain closed.

He added that the ban on the sale and use of all kinds of fireworks and explosives was still in force.

In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,750 personnel in Kano to facilitate hitch-free Sallah festivities.

This is contained in a statement by Kano’s NSCDC spokesman, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Tuesday.

Mr Abdullahi said that tactical operatives were deployed to Eid praying grounds and recreational centres in Kano’s 44 local government areas.

He said the corps emergency response unit and medical team were ready for disaster management and response services during Sallah.

According to him, the measure is to secure lives and property during the celebrations.

While reiterating the commitment of the command to work in synergy with other security organisations, Mr Abdullahi urged Kano residents to be vigilant and report suspicious movements and persons to security agencies.
