There was a late night scare as Santiago Bernabeu, the home ground of Real Madrid Football Club went up in flames on Wednesday, Marca has reported.

The news outlet disclosed that the fire outbreak caused a huge thick smoke which emanated from the stadium.

The fire alarms of the stadium were rang and thereafter, fire fighters soon arrived the scene and were able to put out the ‘small foam insulation’ blaze in just 15 minutes.

As of now, the cause of the outbreak and the extent of damages are yet to be ascertained.

Due to the on-going renovation of the 81,000 capacity stadium which started since June 2019, the team had been playing their home matches at 6,000 capacity Estadio Alfredo di Stephano.

The damage caused from the outbreak could delay the completion of the project which may stop them from being able to use the Bernabeu when the new season resumes.

Other projects penned down for completion in the stadium include a fixed roof that will cover every seat, a retractable roof that will cover the whole pitch, a 360-degree screen, restaurants, a five storey underground car pack, new restaurants and a shopping centre.
