Scavenger, 26, in court over alleged possession of iron rods, wires
The police, on Thursday arraigned a 26-year-old scavenger, Sukurana Amodu, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of iron rods and wires.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of possession of iron rods and wires.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 21 at about 11:29 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr Bamikole said that the defendant had in his possession pieces of iron rods, wires and iron materials suspected to have been stolen.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Hassan Saliu, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till March 27 for hearing.
