Security guard, 24 others remanded for alleged murder of Ajayi Crowther varsity student

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday, remanded a security guard at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, and 24 others for allegedly killing a student of the institution.
The security guard, Femi Oladoye, and the others are charged with conspiracy and murder.
The magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, did not take their pleas for lack of jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.
Ms Ogunkanmi adjourned the case until July 8 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Funke Fawole, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 24 at 9:00 p.m. at the university.
Ms Fawole alleged that the defendants unlawfully caused the death of a 22-year-old student, Jeffry Akro, by beating him with planks and wire.
She alleged that Mr Oladoye and a male porter in the university, Kehinde Olabusuyi (one of the suspects), failed to rescue Mr Akro from aggrieved students, who eventually beat him to death.
She said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
