Senate president assures Borno flood victims of National Assembly’s support

The leadership of the Senate has assured Borno flood victims of National Assembly’s support.
This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Office of the Senate President, Eseme Eyiboh, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement said that Mr Akpabio gave the assurance during his condolence visit to the state and palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
Mr Akpabio commended President Bola Tinubu for his timely intervention in the deadly floods that affected most of the state capital, Maiduguri.
The Senate president assured of the National Assembly’s readiness to mobilise the required support to complement efforts in mitigation, prevention and tackling of flooding and other disasters.
He said, “I regard this as a display of love, compassion and commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians.’’
Mr Akpabio also promised to “add verve” to the Special Disaster Intervention Fund, when established.
He expressed gratitude to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NNPCL, NEMA, the Armed Forces and other stakeholders for their swift and strong interventions in addressing the flood disaster.
Mr Akpabio stated, “The National Assembly is committed to supporting all endeavours of governments at federal and sub-national levels aimed at renewing the hopes of Nigerians. Most importantly, the President’s announcement to set up a Special Disaster Intervention Fund from FAAC allocations to assist in future unforeseen natural disasters demonstrates unrelenting commitment to good governance and transformational leadership.’’
He commended Governor Bagana Zulum for being proactive in handling the disaster and attending to the needs of victims.
