Serie A: Victor Osimhen helps Napoli beat Venezia
On Sunday, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scored as Napoli defeated Venezia 2-0 in the Italian Serie A league.
Osimhen helped Napoli secure all three points away from home, rekindling Napoli’s title hope this season.
Sunday’s win pushed Napoli up to second position on the Serie A league table, ranking behind league leader Inter Milan, who have 53 points, with 52 points.
Both teams went into the first break without goals until Osimhen gave Napoli the lead, scoring in the 59th minute.
After a VAR confirmation, Ebuehi got a late red card in the 90+5 minute for a bad tackle on Dries Mertens.
With Sunday’s game extended due to a clash between referee and Venezia’s Tyronne Ebuehi, Andrea Petagna netted a 100th-minute goal, sealing Napoli’s win.
Napoli will face league leader Inter Milan on Saturday with an expectation to displace Inter from the top spot.
“I’m delighted to get back out on the pitch and to have found the net. I’m finally fit again,” Osimhen said after the game on Napoli’s website. “Now, we’ll focus on Inter. It’ll be a really important match against a fantastic side, and we want to give it our all. Our aim is to battle for the Scudetto.”
