At least seven people, including students, were injured when a gunman opened fire in a high school in south-eastern Turkey on Tuesday, local media reported.

The attack took place in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa Province, where an unidentified assailant armed with a shotgun reportedly entered the school early in the day and fired indiscriminately.

The Demirören News Agency reported on Tuesday that the motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

According to the report, the suspect remained inside the school after the attack, refusing to exit or surrender despite multiple police warnings.

Efforts by authorities to persuade the gunman to give himself up were ongoing.

Security forces cordoned off the area, while emergency medical teams were dispatched to treat the injured.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the condition of the victims or the identity of the attacker.
