Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ named FIFA World Cup’s best song
The famous official theme song for the historic 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa has been ranked the catchiest football song.
An Israeli event technology website, SeatPick, announced this recently.
In what was a historic year for Africa when South Africa became the first African nation to host a FIFA World Cup finals in 2010, Shakira released Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) for the tournament alongside an electrifying video showcasing the beautiful continent.
The official release received positive global reception and has since garnered more than three billion views on YouTube to become the Colombia singer’s biggest song of her successful career.
SeatPick employed four main musical metrics and how successful the songs are on YouTube and the biggest music streaming platform, Spotify, to arrive at its conclusion.
The metrics included “danceability, energy, speechiness and valence.”
Considering all the factors, Waka Waka ranked the best with 8.35 points out of a possible 10, scoring 7.6/10, 8.7/10, 7.4/10, and 8.42/10 in danceability, energy, valence and speechiness, respectively.
‘Hayya Hayya’, one of FIFA’s World Cup soundtrack for the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is second on the list with a score of 6.9/10, while La Copa de la Vida by Ricky Martin for the official song 1998 FIFA World Cup emerged third on the list with an overall score of 6.53/10.
