Six arraigned for alleged disruption of public peace

He said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

Six persons were arraigned on Monday before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrates’ court over alleged public nuisance and breach of peace.

The defendants: Hassan Yahaya, 20; Ayuba Adamu, 40; Abayomi Tolulope, 30; Afolabi Olamide, 26; Rilwan Adedeji, 30; and Sunday Oso, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 9:00 p.m. on May 3 in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by constituting a public nuisance.

Mr Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses.

Counsel for the defendants, Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant bail and promised that the defendants would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety each in like sum, and adjourned the case until June 26 for hearing.
