Six scavengers arrested for erecting illegal structures at Falomo underbridge
Six scavengers have been arrested for erecting illegal structures at Falomo underbridge along Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on his official X handle on Tuesday.
According to the commissioner, the Monitoring & Enforcement Team of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency dislodged the scavengers.
He stated, “It was discovered that the new illegal structure was constructed by scavengers who were recently dislodged from Obalende under the bridge, constituting an environmental nuisance and defacing public facilities. This follow-up and mop operation led to the arrest of six scavengers.’’
The commissioner added that the operation was to drive the agency’s mandate of creating a serene and habitable environment for Lagosians through the removal of illegal structures on walkways, road setbacks, and shanties which had become a major cause of drainage blockage and indiscriminate waste dumping in the state.
