The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of two people and 12 people injured in an auto crash that occurred at Osara community in the Adavi LGA of Kogi.

Tenimu Etuku, the FRSC sector commander in Kogi, made this known in Lokoja.

The sector commander said that four out of the 14 survivors were in very critical conditions and had been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Mr Etuku described the crash, which involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus and an articulated vehicle, as “fatal”.

According to the manifest, the tragic bus reportedly departed Kano on Monday night, en route to Auchi-Benin, before the regrettable incident occurred between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to him, the cause of the head-on collision was speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The sector commander said that the FRSC personnel who carried out the rescue have deposited the two corpses at the hospital mortuary.

Mr Etuku urges motorists to drive with care on the highways and keep to traffic rules and regulations, most especially during the Yuletide.

“Motorists or road users must be careful and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid such accidents and wastage of precious lives. By so doing, they will greatly contribute to reducing the number of accidents and fatalities across the country,” he stated.
