So-Safe Corps says it has recovered three firearms and other items from a bag abandoned by a suspect who fled after sighting operatives conducting a routine search in Ajibawo.

So-Safe commander Soji Ganzallo said in a statement on Monday that the recovery was made on Sunday.

Mr Ganzallo said, “The incident occurred in the early hours of September 13, 2026, at about 12:35 p.m., when officers of the Kajola Oke-Ore divisional command, while conducting a routine security patrol, sighted a male individual carrying a bag on his back around Success Unit Post, Success CDA, Ajibawo.

“The officers approached the individual for routine security questioning concerning his movement and the contents of the bag. However, the individual took to his heels immediately upon realising that he was being questioned by security operatives.

“The patrol team pursued him, but the individual, upon noticing that the officers were closing in, abandoned the bag and escaped into the surrounding area. Following his escape, the officers inspected the abandoned bag and discovered a pair of pliers, a measuring tape, a carpenter’s bar, one pistol, one single-barrel firearm and one suspected AK-type rifle.”

Mr Ganzallo stated that the recovered items and the incident were reported through the appropriate command channels before being transferred to the Atan-Ota divisional police command for further investigation, examination, and appropriate action.

Mr Ganzallo urged residents, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies.

The agency also assured that the relevant authorities would properly investigate all recovered items, while efforts would continue to establish the fleeing individual’s identity and possible criminal connections.
