A lawmaker on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, on Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development through an empowerment programme in the state.

Mr Dasuki, represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Attahiru Danmadi, inaugurated the initiative which benefited more than 1,500 constituents with solar-powered tools, machines, and financial grants.

He stated that the programme was designed to promote renewable energy, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship.

He said, “My focus has always been on practical solutions that directly impact the lives of our people. Empowering youths and women is central to building sustainable livelihoods.’’

The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to supporting small-scale businesses, describing them as the backbone of economic growth and viability.

He stated, “As you are aware, many of these small-scale businesses are prioritised by our mothers. When women have the right tools and support, they not only earn income but also uplift the standard of society. This is why women remain central to every empowerment initiative I undertake.’’

The event, held in Dogondaji, Tambuwal Local Government Area, was carried out in partnership with the Border Communities Development Agency.

The items distributed included 500 solar-powered charging booths, solar water pumps, sewing machines, and grinding machines.

According to Mr Dasuki, each solar booth can charge up to 50 devices simultaneously and was allocated to youths’ cooperatives to boost self-reliance.

He added, “Farmers received solar pumps to support dry-season irrigation, while women entrepreneurs were empowered with sewing and grinding machines to strengthen small-scale businesses.’’

Mr Dasuki noted that over 1,000 youths received financial support in the form of grants ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦500,000, adding that some cooperatives were given as much as ₦1 million.

He said, “I believe strongly in giving our people the means to grow their businesses, create jobs, and build a brighter future.’’

Mr Dasuki reaffirmed that the financial support was deliberately structured to stimulate entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
