Wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has condemned the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a child by her mother in Onitsha.

The state police command on Friday said it arrested a 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over alleged child sexual abuse.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was being investigated for alleged child pornography.

Mrs Soludo, in a statement on Friday, described the report as “deeply disturbing and beyond comprehension,” stressing that children deserved protection, love and a safe environment to grow.

She said no child should be subjected to sexual exploitation or any form of abuse.

“I commend the Anambra State Police Command and everyone whose information and intervention led to the rescue of these children. I urge the police to conduct a thorough, transparent and professional investigation into this matter, leaving no stone unturned in establishing the full facts.

“This should include identifying anyone else who may have been involved and ensuring that where wrongdoing is established, the law takes its full course,” she said.

The governor’s wife said her immediate concern was the welfare of the four rescued children, particularly their emotional and psychological wellbeing.

She said she would liaise with relevant authorities to ensure the children received appropriate medical, psychological, social and rehabilitation support.

Mrs Soludo also said she would closely follow the case to ensure the children remained protected and justice was served.

She appealed to parents, guardians, neighbours and community members to remain vigilant and report anything that threatened the safety or dignity of a child.

Mrs Soludo stated, “Silence can never be an option when the safety of a child is at stake. Anambra, under the Solution Administration, stands firmly against every form of violence, abuse and exploitation of women and children. We will protect them with everything we have.”
