SSS arrests NLC president Ajaero at Abuja airport

Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Monday arrested the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.
The NLC president was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as he was about to fly to the United Kingdom.
Mr Ajaero was travelling to London to attend the Trade Union Congress conference, which commenced today.
NLC spokesman Benson Upah confirmed Mr Ajaero’s arrest in a text message to Channels Television.
He, however, stated that he was unaware of where Mr Ajaero was taken to.
The reason for the arrest at the time of filing this report is yet unknown.
The NLC president had, on August 28, honoured an invitation from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), over alleged “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime,” but was later released.
The police alleged that Mr Ajaero had links to attempts to overthrow President Bola Tinubu through the #EndBadGovernanance protest in August.
At the time of this report, the SSS spokesperson was yet to answer calls or respond to text messages by Peoples Gazette about why Mr Ajaero was arrested, as well as his whereabouts.
