Student killed, seven others injured in Turkey mass stabbing at Istanbul school

Police detained the suspected attacker, described by officials as a 15-year-old 10th-grade student from another school.

A teenage student identified as Eslem Sare Bulut was stabbed to death and eight others were injured at a school in Istanbul on Tuesday.

Turkey’s interior ministry disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement that the incident occurred at a middle school in Başakşehir.

“On October 6, 2026, in an incident that occurred at a middle school in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul, eight of our students were injured and transferred to hospitals.

“Despite all interventions, Eslem Sare Bulut, one of our students who was taken under treatment, has passed away,” the ministry said. 

It added that treatment for the other seven injured students continues.

Police detained the suspected attacker, described by officials as a 15-year-old 10th-grade student from another school.

Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu said of the eight wounded, there was “one in critical condition and two in moderate-to-serious condition”.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said the attacker, who was wearing a school uniform, had stabbed the youngsters at random.

“The student who carried out the attack lives in the same neighbourhood and attends a different school. 

“She entered the premises wearing a school uniform and stabbed the children indiscriminately,” he said.
