Suicide bomb threats trigger security alert in North-East

The headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation HADIN KAI has called for increased vigilance across the North-East, following an increased risk of suicide bomb attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
The advisory was issued in a statement on Tuesday, following multiple suicide bombing attacks in Maiduguri on Monday evening.
The suicide bombers targeted the Monday Market, the post office, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, resulting in casualties and demonstrating the continued intent of terrorists to strike crowded civilian locations.
The statement noted that terrorist groups often intensify attacks during significant religious periods, especially around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan, when mosques, markets, motor parks, hospitals, and other public gathering points experience heightened human activity.
It urged the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious, advising worshippers attending night prayers (taraweeh and tahajjud) and other religious gatherings to exercise caution and cooperate with security personnel during screening and access control operations.
It also urged the public to report unattended bags, parcels, or suspicious objects immediately to security personnel, avoid overcrowded areas where possible, and remain aware of their surroundings.
The public was advised to fully cooperate with security agencies during stop-and-search operations and to monitor children’s movements, particularly during evening hours and night prayers.
“Community leaders, religious authorities, market associations, and transport unions have been urged to support security efforts by sensitising members and promptly reporting any suspicious activities,” it stated.
The JTF spokesperson confirmed that operational readiness had intensified across the region, with increased patrols, surveillance, and protective measures around critical locations.
