The Ogun State police command says it has arrested a suspected cultist, Okiki Adewusi, over alleged involvement in cultism and violent crime, at Ore area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Mr Babaseyi said the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad of the Ogun Police Command, recorded yet another operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on cultism and violent crime.

He stated that the operatives recovered two locally made pistols, three live cartridges, and a battle axe through intelligence-led operations.

He stated, “On October 26, at about 8.00 p.m, the operatives of SWAT Base 7, Abule Iroko, Sango-Ota, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Okiki, aged 26, popularly known as “Baba Obo,” in the Ore area of Atan, Ogun State.”

Mr Babaseyi added that a search of his residence led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and three live cartridges.

He stated, “Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons suspected of involvement and recover additional weapons, while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the case.

“In a swift follow-up operation on October 27, at about 6:30p.m., information obtained from the arrested suspect led operatives to a separate location, where a second locally made pistol and a battle axe were recovered and secured as exhibits.”

Mr Babaseyi said that the operation underscored the command’s determination to pursue actionable intelligence beyond arrests and prevent potentially dangerous weapons from remaining in circulation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and effective use of intelligence.

He reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt cult-related activities and curb the illegal possession of firearms.

He urged residents to provide timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities.

He assured the public that the command would continue to act decisively on actionable intelligence to protect lives and property and sustain public safety across the state.
