Swedish defence agency staff on ground in Ukraine: Official

Representatives of Sweden’s defence procurement agency say they are already on the ground in Ukraine, the Kyiv Independent newspaper reported, citing Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson.
The minister also said that he did not rule out the possibility of Stockholm training Ukrainian military personnel in Ukraine.
“We think it’s good if we can find unity on this in Europe; there are ongoing discussions in several different places in Europe,’’ he told the newspaper.
French President Emmanuel Macron said after a conference on Ukraine hosted in Paris in February 2024 that Western leaders had discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.
He added that a consensus had not yet been reached but that nothing could be ruled out.
Although some EU leaders dismissed the proposal, Mr Macron reiterated that the option should remain on the table.
The idea of possibly sending troops of Kyiv’s European allies to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal was discussed in December in Brussels.
There, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte hosted several European leaders as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Washington Post reported.
He added that such a proposal was also presented to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump during his meeting with Mr Zelensky and Mr Macron in Paris earlier that month.
Mr Trump reportedly expressed interest in the idea during the meeting, but it was not yet clear whether the new U.S. administration would support the plan.
