Six soldiers were killed in an Israeli drone strike in Syria, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry condemns the attack as a serious violation of international law and a breach of Syria’s sovereignty.

It said the attack which happened on Tuesday, is part of “the repeated aggressive policies by the Israeli occupation that aim at undermining security and stability in the region.”

The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, two attacks took place on Tuesday near Damascus, targeting a military site and then targeting the rescue workers who arrived at the site.

Israel and Syria, who have been officially at war since 1948, held direct talks in Paris a week ago under U.S. mediation amid reports about a possible security agreement between the two sides.

Israel has repeatedly attacked Syria since the ouster of long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad in early December.
