Michael Elendu, a Nigerian-Canadian convicted nearly three years ago of murdering his roommate, has been found guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter following a retrial.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The trio pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.
The judge, Umar Lawal-Abubakar, ordered that they be remanded in the Goron Dutse correction centre in Kano.
The accused are Sheu Babuga, 20, Bunbe Densi, and Sanda Ali, 19.
He said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
The state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were arrested following a distress call.
A magistrates’ court in Calabar ordered that nine men be remanded for kidnapping Ekanem Ephraim, a lead consultant in neurology at UCTH.
Mr Nguroje said the suspects were arrested on August 17 by the intelligence department of the command in Kojoli, Jada LGA.
“The victim was successfully rescued,” he said.
