Mr Placid urged residents of Ekiti State to come out peacefully and exercise their civic rights.
The cop warned members of the public against approaching him with cameras while on duty.
The Force spokesperson, Anthony Placid, in a statement on Saturday, said the 17 policemen were killed on May 8, 2026.
He assured residents that the police had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations.
The police say four alleged bandits have been apprehended and several firearms, including ammunition, were recovered in Tayu, Sanga LGA in Kaduna.
The command said the syndicate specialised in stealing and altering vehicles to conceal their identity and ownership.
