Mr Biu also warned drivers against excessive speed to avoid crashes while on the road.
Mr Biu specifically urged fleet and other commercial vehicle operators and private vehicle owners to prioritise vehicle maintenance.
The special operations for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration had been scheduled to commence on Thursday, April 20, and end on Tuesday, April 25.
Mr Kazeem quoted the FRSC corps marshal, Dauda Biu, as advising motorists to desist from night journeys to reduce fatalities from road crashes.
The corps said it has activated 28 road traffic crash clinics and 53 zebra points located along the major routes to be covered by ambulances that will be fully utilised.
The FRSC was reacting to the series of crashes involving political party convoys that have occurred since the commencement of the electioneering campaigns.
The promotion approval came at the end of the meeting of the FRSC Board, which ratified the resolution of the FRSC Establishment Committee on the promotion.
The corps marshal pledged to restore sanity on the country’s roads and confidence of road users in the use of road transportation.
The agency attributed the cause of the crashes to violation of legal speed limits and dangerous driving during the Christmas season.
The FRSC boss said that the operation would begin on December 15 and end on January 15, 2023.
