ASAP is a global initiative of IFAD, integrated into Nigeria’s VCDP framework.
“Many patients do not die because treatment is impossible. They die because diagnosis comes too late due to inability to pay for tests,” Mr Bagana said.
“I will not negotiate or pay ransom to bandits. The moment we start paying, they will open shop on our heads and keep kidnapping people,” the Niger governor said.
Ms Isah said the VCDP project is being implemented in Bida, Katcha, Wushishi, Kontagora, Shiroro, Borgu, Edati and Mokwa local government areas.
Borgu has always been a melting pot that fuses multifarious cultural influences from far-flung places.
According to the government, at least 100 people are awaiting trial.
Centuries before colonialism and the British-supervised formation of Nigeria, much of what we know today as northern and western Nigeria have had robust encounters.
Thirteen local government areas in the state are said to be currently benefiting from the programme.
