The police command in Jigawa has confirmed the death of three children in a building collapse that occurred in the Dutse local government area.
“The developer has been dropping names any time our officers visit the place.”
The exact number of missing people was unknown, but it was estimated that some 35 others are still trapped under the ruins.
The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) has called for stiffer penalties, including death sentences for erring professionals responsible for building collapse.
Residents of the building had already evacuated the building when they noticed the signs two hours before the collapse.
To prevent this hazard, the builders institute president wants developers to leave the business of construction to professionals.
